Gray Star Western Riding Lessons
and Horsemanship

Horsemanship, as defined in the dictionary, is the "skill in handling and riding of horses". This is what Gray Star Riding is committed to offering.

During a Western lesson, riders can expect to start at the beginning with the 'basics' of riding, before we engage in classic western events such as barrel racing, pole bending, and other western games, western pleasure riding, basic reining patterns, and of course trail rides in our local area.

Riding is an activity that stimulates the body, mind and spirit. Horses offer not only recreation, but the opportunity to learn the subtleties of Equine communication, this is the development of trust and boundaries, the very foundation of horsemanship.

Western Riding Lessons

Spaces are available for children and youths. There are also very limited Saturday and Adult (19 and over) spaces available. Please contact Tracy for further information.

Western Riding Lessons

Western riding in groups, allows for novice riders to learn from each other, participate in games and events they may not encounter in private lessons, as well as grow in their horsemanship and equine responsibilities.

The aim of the group riding is to encourage the participants to grow in their riding and levels of responsibility. We can engage in different activities when riding as a group vs individual lessons, and it can be helpful to learn from other riders.

Riders will be encouraged to be semi-independent with their horses, all helping to teach and learn from each other.

Group lessons are an ideal way to prepare for the responsibility of leasing a horse and buying and/or boarding a horse. They are also very beneficial if you are preparing to compete since most shows require several competitors in the ring at the same time.
